Storytelling Session at the Small Theatre of the Royal Theatre of Rabat
For centuries, Jemaa El Fna Square has echoed with the voices of its storytellers, the hlaiqiya. Every day, circles of spectators would gather around them to listen to stories passed down from generation to generation. Today, this oral tradition forms part of the intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO.
For one afternoon, the Royal Theatre of Rabat pays tribute to these voices. Three storytellers bring the halqa tradition back to life: Mohamed Bariz, Abderrahim Al Azzalia and Zouhair Khaznaoui.
In the intimate setting of the Small Theatre, audiences can rediscover the closeness and spirit of the storytelling circle of the square. A rare moment to share with family or friends.
